Wait, can there be such a thing as "prestige" AI content?

John Gaeta, the VFX veteran who won a visual-effects Oscar for "The Matrix," believes there's a potentially huge audience for curated, high-quality films and series created with the help of generative AI technologies.

Call it an anti-slop play: Gaeta's escape.ai has built a streaming service dedicated to monetizing next-generation entertainment and interactive experiences built with AI, video-game engines and other modern production tools. "This is the prestige destination for cutting-edge generative AI content, but that's not what we call it -- we call it 'Neo Cinema,'" says Gaeta, in a seeming nod to the hero of "The Matrix" movies.

Now, after launching on the web a year ago, escape.ai is coming to connected TVs. Through a distribution deal with Play.Works, a provider of CTV games and video, apps for "Escape: Neo Cinema and Beyond" are available on Roku and the Roku Channel, Amazon Fire TV, LG and Samsung smart TVs. All together, the four platforms represent more than 400 million active devices worldwide. An escape.ai streaming app for Apple TV is next in the queue, Gaeta says.
